Pop group Maroon 5 will take this stage next February during the Super Bowl LIII (53) halftime show.
The annual 13-minute performance will take place on February 3, 2019 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, The New York Times reports. While nothing is completely set in stone at this time, two sources familiar with the plan confirmed the band’s performance.
“It’s a Super Bowl tradition to speculate about the performers for the Pepsi Halftime Show,” the NFL said in a statement. “We are continuing to work with Pepsi on our plans but do not have any announcements to make on what will be another epic show.”
According to a 2015 interview with Howard Stern, Maroon 5 lead singer Adam Levine said that the band “very actively want to play the Super Bowl.”
The group has six studio albums under their belt, with a handful of smash-hit singles like “She Will Be Loved” off of their debut Songs About Jane, 2010’s “Move Like Jagger,” and “Payphone” off of Overexposed. In 2015, the group seemed to become even more popular with V, featuring hit singles “Maps,” “Animals,” and “Sugar.”
This summer, Maroon 5 released their latest record, Red Pill Blues. The LP includes “What Lovers Do” featuring SZA and “Girls Like You” featuring Cardi B — both have garnered over 300 million streams since their release. Additionally, the group collaborated with Kendrick Lamar on the track “Don’t Wanna Know,” which points to some possible guest appearances during their performance.
Maroon 5 will now join the list of legendary performers who have played during the Super Bowl halftime show, alike Justin Timberlake, Lady GaGa, Beyonce, and Bruno Mars. However, the group will have to step-up their game to beat the most-watched halftime show featuring Katy Perry in 2015; her show with dancing sharks totaled a whopping 120.7 million audience.
The show on February 3, 2019 will be broadcast by CBS.
