The Spice Girls are reportedly going to be making an official announcement about their “future plans” this week.
The Spice Girls, who consist of: Victoria Beckham, Melanie Chisholm, Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton and Melanie Brown will make their announcement on Thursday, following recent speculation of a new album and a concert tour. Posh, Scary, Baby, Sporty and Ginger formed in 1994, before eventually splitting in 2001.
A statement issued from Simon Fuller’s 19 Entertainment, which represents the band, said: “Following weeks of speculation, the Spice Girls are set to make an official announcement to the world regarding future plans on Thursday June 28.
“No further information can be given at this time but given the bands unique history, you can be sure to expect the unexpected! Details regarding the announcement will be released in the coming days.” The group split in February 2001 but there have been recent rumors of a reunion tour. . .
Since the group’s break up, reunion rumours have persisted. The British tabloids and other newspapers have claimed that declining solo careers have forced each of the former Girls to consider reuniting the group. The vast majority of these however have been based on nothing more than rumour and hearsay. Whenever any of the members of the group are seen together in public, it is almost certain that reunion stories will appear in the tabloid newspapers soon after. Despite official denials by the five women themselves, tabloid editors continue to fill column inches with stories about a comeback.
Media speculation was fuelled by a statement issued by 19 Entertainment regarding the group’s future: “The Spice Girls are set to make an official announcement to the world regarding future plans on Thursday 28th June. No further information can be given at this time but given the band’s unique history you can be sure to expect the unexpected.”
The closest the group has come to reuniting on stage was in July 2005 at the Live 8 concert in Hyde Park, London. The group were widely rumoured to be performing at the show, and organiser Bob Geldof confirmed at a press conference on 31 May 2005 that he had been in contact with all of them. However, the group did not perform due to Melanie Brown’s commitments in Los Angeles.
