Broadway’s ‘Every Brilliant Thing’ Announces 2027 North American Tour

Broadway’s solo play “Every Brilliant Thing” is getting ready to launch a North American national tour in 2027, beginning in Seattle, Washington. Additional cities, dates, and casting for the tour have not yet been announced.

The news was revealed by Mariska Hargitay at the 2026 Broadway League Spring Road Conference. Hargitay is scheduled to join the Broadway production beginning May 26, taking over one of the rotating lead performances.

“Every Brilliant Thing” is currently running at the Hudson Theatre on Broadway, where it is nominated for a Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play. The production marks the show’s Broadway debut following a long international history that began at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

The play centers on a narrator who grows up dealing with a distant father and a mother struggling with depression. As a child, the narrator begins compiling a list of “brilliant things” as a way to cope and bring comfort to their mother. The list includes both simple pleasures and specific observations, such as ice cream, the color yellow, kind elderly people, and even-numbered “Star Trek” films.

The work first premiered at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, where it played three consecutive summers to sold-out audiences. It later transferred Off-Broadway in 2014 at the Barrow Street Theatre. That production was filmed live and broadcast on HBO, with Jonny Donahoe starring.

The play returned to the Edinburgh Fringe in 2024 and was highlighted as a Playbill pick. It also made its West End debut at @sohoplace, where it featured a rotating roster of performers.

The production is co-directed by Jeremy Herrin and Duncan Macmillan, with scenic and costume design by Vicki Mortimer, lighting design by Jack Knowles, and sound design by Tom Gibbons. Casting is by Jessica Ronane, TT Partners serves as general manager, and Jhanaë K-C Bonnick is the production stage manager.

“Every Brilliant Thing” is produced by Second Half Productions, Seaview, and Gavin Kalin Productions in association with Paines Plough.
