Mariska Hargitay to Make Broadway Debut in 'Every Brilliant Thing'

Mariska Hargitay will make her Broadway debut this spring when she joins the solo play “Every Brilliant Thing” at the Hudson Theatre, succeeding Daniel Radcliffe in the role. The television star is scheduled to begin performances May 26, two days after Radcliffe concludes his run in the production.

In a statement, Hargitay shared, “I read Every Brilliant Thing and cried, rejoiced, laughed, cried some more, and loved it so much. I’m always drawn to themes of healing and renewal, especially when the journey is rendered in all its complexity.”

“It feels like an extraordinary gift to make my Broadway debut, the fulfillment of a lifelong dream, with a play that affirms life so emphatically,” Hargitay continued. “For me, the triumph of this beautiful piece of work—this luminously brilliant thing—is that through a deeply personal story, we experience the universal endeavor of keeping ourselves pointed towards light, compassion and hope.”

Radcliffe officially opened in Duncan Macmillan and Jonny Donahoe’s one-person play March 12 and will give his final performance May 24. The production has extended its limited engagement through June 28, allowing Hargitay to headline the final weeks of the Broadway run.

“Every Brilliant Thing” centers on a narrator who begins compiling a list of small, joyful moments as a child in an effort to help his mother cope with depression. As the character grows older, the list expands into a reflection on life’s meaning and the value of finding hope in everyday experiences.

The Broadway production of “Every Brilliant Thing” is co-directed by Macmillan and Jeremy Herrin.
