Lincoln Center Theater has announced that its Broadway revival of “Ragtime” will embark on a North American tour beginning in fall 2027.
The upcoming production will mark the first union tour of the musical to travel across North America since 2001, when the original touring production concluded. Director Lear deBessonet will lead the touring production and reunite with the creative team behind the Broadway revival.
The tour will be produced by Tom Kirdahy, Kevin Ryan, Robert Greenblatt, and Lamar Richardson, who are also involved with the Broadway production.
In a joint statement, Kirdahy, Ryan, Greenblatt, and Richardson shared, “Ragtime is one of the most ambitious musicals ever written, and it feels timelier than ever. What Lear deBessonet and this extraordinary company have created at Lincoln Center Theater is both epic in scale and deeply human. We couldn’t be more excited to share it with communities across North America.”

Casting for the tour has not yet been revealed. Craig Burns of The Telsey Office will oversee casting.
The revival opened on Broadway at the Vivian Beaumont Theater on October 16, 2025. The production previously had a gala engagement at New York City Center and has since extended its Broadway run multiple times. It is currently scheduled to continue through August 2.

“Ragtime” is based on the novel by E.L. Doctorow. The musical features a book by Terrence McNally, music by Stephen Flaherty, and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens. Set in early 20th-century New York City, the story follows a range of characters from different backgrounds as their lives intersect during a period of social and political change.
The original Broadway production opened in 1998 following a pre-Broadway run in Toronto. The cast included Brian Stokes Mitchell, Audra McDonald, and Marin Mazzie. McDonald won a Tony Award for her performance. The production also received Tony Awards for its score and book.
The tour is scheduled to open at Shea’s Buffalo Theatre in Buffalo, New York. Additional cities and dates have not yet been announced.
